Social networks harness the Web's hidden power

Social network Web sites like Facebook, MySpace and Friendster, with their niche audiences and valuable caches of consumer data, are becoming as popular with investors and marketers as they are with teens and twentysomethings. Web pioneer Tim O'Reilly says, "I really believe the next generation of e-mail, for example, will take on social networking features."
