UPS posts third-quarter profit gains

UPS reported its third-quarter net income rose 3.7% in spite of an economy that is holding down gains in the retail sector. Net income was $1.08 billion, or $1.02 a share for the quarter, including a one-time restructuring charge of $46 million. Revenue climbed 4.7% to $12.21 billion, in line with estimates.
