Europe, Asia want Chinese support for financial rules

European Commission President Jose Barroso said he will use Friday's summit with Asian and European leaders in Beijing to call for global cooperation and to urge China to put its weight behind financial rules needed to stabilize global markets. Thailand will ask China to ease currency-conversion restrictions, while the Philippines wants support for a regional bank-rescue plan. South Korea suggested moving more quickly to create an $80 billion fund to shore up Asian exchange rates.
