European regulators ask CDS participants to reduce risks

European regulators asked participants in the credit-derivatives industry -- including exchanges, investors and securities firms -- to come up with a plan to lower risks posed by these financial instruments to broader markets. Officials said they want to see a central clearing counterparty for the sector. They made it clear that they will introduce legislation if the industry is unable to work out a solution.
