One-third of West Island preschoolers not ready for school

Nearly 50% of students in Canada's Pierrefonds area and 31% of preschoolers throughout Montreal's West Island are not prepared to enroll in school, causing some to worry that those children will lag behind their peers throughout primary school. A recent study by local education officials found that area children had difficulties with language, cognitive development and emotional maturity, which are believed to be indicators of how successful a child will be in school.
