New twists on familiar comfort food

Comfort food has evolved from the 1970s when the phrase was coined to describe dishes that take us back to simpler times, and it became popular again in the wake of 9/11 when Americans headed back to home kitchens. To bring diners back, restaurants formulated new versions of hard-to-duplicate comfort dishes, such as three new twists on familiar mac-and-cheese at Noodles & Co.
