Sources: Atmel wins chip orders for Amazon's Kindle Fire

Atmel has reportedly topped Taiwanese chipmakers to supply touch-screen controller ICs for Amazon.com's new Kindle Fire tablet computer, according to DigiTimes, which cited industry sources. The Amazon tablet, seen as a substantial competitor to the iPad, may generate orders for millions of chips in 2012 if it is a success, those sources noted.
