EPA is urged to order disclosure of chemicals in drilling

The Environmental Protection Agency should require energy firms to report chemical releases from drilling to the Toxics Release Inventory, environmentalists said. Oil and natural gas wellhead activities are excluded from the rule, which applies to refineries, coal mining operations and other industrial plants. "An oil and gas well isn't a massive industrial facility, and underground injection of waste water, which is already regulated under a different federal law, does not constitute a hazardous 'release' into the environment," Energy In Depth said in response to the petition.
