Bird flu strain re-emerges in China sparking fears of renewed epidemic

A deadly strain of bird flu that killed 45 people earlier this year has resurfaced in eastern China, raising concerns of a new epidemic. The case of a 35-year-old man from the Zhejiang province who contracted the H7N9 virus in October worries scientists at the Zhejiang Provincial Center for Disease Control and Prevention because it differs from previous strains in that it occurred in a younger patient "with no obvious underlying diseases and no obvious recent direct contact with live poultry," they said.
