Series I bonds are similar to Treasury Inflation Protected Securities but have unique features that advisers and clients should consider for hedging against inflation and rising interest rates, writes Michael Kitces. I bonds accrue and compound interest without paying it out, which creates an advantage of automatic tax deferral, and the U.S. Treasury always redeems Series I bonds at their full value.
