NASAA warns of risks in self-directed IRA strategies

Scammers peddling self-directed Individual Retirement Accounts are among the biggest threats to retirement savings in the U.S., warns the North American Securities Administrators Association. Investors should be wary of potential frauds whenever they consider putting money into private-placement securities, promissory notes, real estate or tax lien certificates to be held in a self-directed IRA, the group says.
