Oracle Labs is developing a low-power laser that someday may be used in silicon-based photonic components connecting servers in the racks of data centers at 25 gigabits per second. "Over the next five years, all [server] links will become exclusively photonic at 25G or perhaps slightly faster," Oracle's A.V. Krishnamoorthy said. "We are really focused now on getting more efficient silicon-assisted lasers," he added.
