PCMA develops solutions to save $100 billion in federal drug spending

PCMA President and CEO Mark Merritt offered the leaders of a bipartisan congressional budget panel specific proposals to reduce Medicare spending while boosting safety. Suggestions include revoking tax deductions for direct-to-consumer drug ads, allowing greater use of preferred pharmacy networks in Medicare Part D, allowing plan sponsors to negotiate competitive pharmacy dispensing fees and encouraging the use of generics and preferred brands.
