New blood makes for better bosses

When it's time to replace the boss, it's tempting to promote from within the company -- but research shows that firms are often better off hiring an outsider. Insiders may be more familiar with the company culture, but they're also more emotionally invested in their predecessors' management decisions, say psychologists -- and that means they're more likely to repeat their mistakes.
