S.D. district struggles to develop diversity in teaching corps

The Sioux Falls, S.D., school district is working to increase the racial diversity of its teaching corps, despite nearly tripling the number of minority instructors in 2008. The district has had little success recruiting teachers from out of state using online advertising and job fairs, and it is now working to encourage its own students to pursue careers in education and return to the district. However, most interested students are white and female -- mirroring the staff.
