Data show housing prices flat, consumer confidence down

Consumer confidence fell to its lowest level since March 2009 in October, The Conference Board reported, despite recent better-than-anticipated job and manufacturing reports. Meanwhile, the S&P/Case Shiller index showed that home prices stayed flat in August, which analysts attributed to the high inventory of homes for sale, including foreclosures.
