Recession changed U.S. consumer spending

How Americans spend their money has changed significantly since 2007, as illustrated by The Economist's Daily Chart blog. Families pay more for utilities and health care and less on clothing and dining out. From 2007 to 2010, spending per person fell 3.1%.
