Teacher: Horseback-riding benefits students with special needs

The Riding to the Top Therapeutic Riding Center in Windham, Maine, offers physical, cognitive and emotional therapies through horseback-riding for adults and children with disabilities. The center often hosts groups of students with autism and other special needs from area schools. "It had an effect on their academics," special-education teacher Linda Baker said. "They're reluctant writers. But this just opened them up."
