Copay cards might look like a good deal, but there's a catch

Discount and copay programs for branded drugs may seem like a deal to patients, but the programs drive up overall health care spending, writes Dr. Kevin Pho. Moreover, drugmakers can and do end discount programs at any time, and patients often fail to switch to less expensive generic versions. "[T]he majority of patients should avoid the temptation of drug coupons. As with most deals, there's often a catch," Pho writes.
