AAR: Rail carload, intermodal traffic grew in latest week

Freight carload volume of U.S. railroads rose 0.2% year-on-year in the week ending Oct. 19, and intermodal activity climbed 4.3%, according to the Association of American Railroads. Of the 10 carload categories, eight posted gains, led by a 15.5% increase in shipments of petroleum and petroleum products. Overall U.S. traffic in the latest week gained 2.1% compared with the year-ago level, AAR noted.
