Microsoft doubles Surface tablet sales on $400M in fiscal Q1 revenue

Microsoft sold more than twice as many Surface tablets in its latest quarter than the previous period, the company said Thursday after reporting earnings in which it also said that Surface-related revenues reached $400 million. While the figure does not approach the $900 million write-off Microsoft took in July from unsold Surface RT inventory, it shows that consumers may have been responding to discounts the company began to offer on the Surface RT and Surface Pro over the summer, Devindra Hardawar writes.
