Eastern Shore bypass a study in extended-life pavement

A new bypass that diverts beach-bound traffic from Washington, D.C., and Baltimore around the Maryland town of Salisbury is doubling as a research project on pavement quality. The Maryland Department of Transportation's State Highway Administration is using the bypass to try out extended-life pavements, which hold the promise of doubling the life span of the state's highways.
