Ed. Dept.: Transcripts should avoid mentioning student disabilities

Schools should avoid mentioning a student's disabilities or special-education status on transcripts, the U.S. Department of Education advised in a letter to administrators. Report cards, however, may include such information without violating federal disability-discrimination laws, said Stephanie J. Monroe, the department's assistant secretary for civil rights.
