Engineers may have miscalculated gusset plates for Minneapolis bridge

Designers of the Minneapolis bridge that collapsed last year miscalculated the thickness of key gusset plates, according to federal safety investigators. The National Transportation Safety Board on Nov. 13 will review the investigators' report and hold a public hearing. Investigators found that shifting piers, high heat and corrosion of the plates did not contribute to the collapse.
