Advocates, parents speak out against more N.Y. education cuts

Education advocates, union leaders and parents testified against plans for further cuts to New York's education budget at a regional hearing of the state Senate Finance Committee in New York City. At one point during the hearing, a group of parents protested by breaking pencils and chanting, "Keep your promises, no more cuts." Gov. David Paterson has proposed $480 million in statewide education cuts, and a state senator said he and fellow lawmakers are also frustrated by the cuts.
