Colombia's Juan Valdez may rein in expansion plans

A top retail industry official said the Juan Valdez coffee chain, which is based in Colombia, is re-evaluating its expansion plans amid the fallout from the global financial crisis. "The expansion pace has decelerated because of the crisis," said Catalina Crane, president of Procafecol, a division of the Colombian coffee federation. "It really depends on whether we decide to expand to new countries, but it won't be at the accelerated pace of previous years."
