FDIC's Bair says some bank reviews should remain private

Federal Deposit Insurance Corp. Chairman Sheila Bair said she sees "merit" in keeping some inspector general reviews of the health of banks private. However, Bair said this is not likely to be the case in the near term as regulators, lawmakers and bankers grapple with the fallout from the global financial crisis. Bair suggested a possible compromise, which would involve disclosing review findings to a congressional oversight panel.
