GAO: FDA fails to track drugmakers conducting postmarket studies

The Government Accountability Office released a report showing the FDA has been unable to track the progress of many of the postmarket studies it required from drugmakers between 1992 and 2008. Dr. Joshua Sharfstein, deputy FDA commissioner, said that since 2007 the FDA has "completely overhauled" its postmarket surveillance processes, and it continues to work to fix past problems.
