Group launches pilot project to combat counterfeit drugs

The European Federation of Pharmaceutical Industries and Associations is teaming up with Sweden's Siemens IT Solutions and Services to test a standardized medicine coding and identification system across 25 retail drugstores. "Individual product verification will not provide a complete solution to the challenge of counterfeit medicines. Nevertheless, as part of a package of measures, this type of end-to-end verification system will make a significant contribution to product security," said the EFPIA's director general.
