VLJ term may disappear along with Eclipse Aviation

The very light jet moniker may go out along with the company that pioneered the term, Eclipse Aviation, which was liquidated through Chapter 7 bankruptcy two months ago. While many other companies continue to manufacture small business jets, they avoid categorizing the planes as VLJs. "This industry is very tough on newcomers, and the only way Eclipse lasted as long as it did is by creating extremely unrealistic expectations," said industry analyst Richard Aboulafia.
