Consumer confidence rose slightly in October, but is still at low levels

U.S. consumer confidence was up slightly in October, according to data gathered by the Conference Board. The research group's confidence index was 50.2 for the month, an uptick from a revised 48.6 recorded for September, but indicates that consumers still have a highly pessimistic view of the economy.
