Concrete and steel form wavy exterior on new performance center

Curving stainless steel bands and concrete panels that peak at nine stories are the focal point of the exterior of the $413 million Kauffman Center for the Performing Arts in Kansas City, Mo. Designed by Moshe Safdie, the building has a 1,600-seat, "cathedral-like" performance area, an 1,800-seat theater and a 15,000-square-foot lobby.
