Disability coverage is costing workers more, experts say

More companies expect employees to contribute more toward the cost of disability insurance this enrollment season, a benefits consultant says. The most recent data, from 2009, show that 53% of employers passed on the entire cost of long-term disability insurance to employees, up from 41% in 2002. In the current season, more companies also are reducing short-term disability coverage, said Stephen Mitchell of Unum Group.
