Water and sewer systems across the U.S. need investment, and the lack of awareness with respect to urgency in implementing solutions is delaying the necessary actions, says Andrew Herrmann, ASCE 2012 president. "Most of the infrastructure is out-of-sight, out-of-mind until something disastrous happens," Herrmann said. "We're trying to bring knowledge to the public of the infrastructure that was invested in by our grandparents and their grandparents. We're trying to point out that it's in poor condition and we need to start making investments to bring it up to the standards where it was decades ago."
