Study finds association between atypical Spitz tumors, melanoma

Atypical Spitz tumors are associated with a higher risk of melanoma and metastasis to regional lymph nodes but are not usually fatal, according to a study published in Archives of Dermatology "It makes clinical sense to minimize aggressive treatment but to offer careful surveillance for rare relapses and subsequent melanomas," the Harvard Medical School-led researchers said.
