Va. adopts 6-year plan to close math achievement gap

The Virginia Board of Education, facing an achievement gap in which African-American and Hispanic students as well as students with learning disorders are scoring below Caucasian students on math assessments, launched a six-year plan that seeks to have at least 73% of all students passing their state math tests. There was some disagreement about whether to have a statewide target or have specific achievement goals for each school district, but ultimately the statewide plan prevailed.
