Indianapolis schools chief wants halt to new charters

Indianapolis schools Superintendent Eugene White plans to press Mayor Bart Peterson within the next few weeks for a moratorium on new charter schools, so that the district has time to stabilize enrollment and attract students to its new academies and magnet schools. A spokesman says the mayor, however, has made it clear in recent years that he opposes halting the growth of charters.
