Expert: Prosthetic heart aims for human trials by 2011

A synthetic heart could be implanted in humans by 2011 as part of a clinical trial that may offer hope to individuals unable to get a transplant, said Alain Carpentier, head of the European research team behind the initiative. The device prototype is made from "biomaterials" aimed at preventing blood clots and immune-system rejection among patients.
