NCLB-mandated science tests could help reinvigorate classroom science even though scores won't be used to measure school accountability. The first round of scores from science tests introduced in the 2007-08 school year are "pretty dismal," said Francis Q. Eberle, executive director of the National Science Teachers Association. "And it really shouldn't surprise anybody," he said, since many schools have cut back on science instruction to focus more heavily on other subject matters.
