Army Corps of Engineers begins $490M St. Marys River project

The first stage of construction of a $490 million superlock has begun on the U.S. side of the St. Marys River that flows from Canada. The Army Corps of Engineers says the construction of the coffer dams is scheduled to be completed in September. Once the dams are in place, the Corps of Engineers will begin the downstream excavation to deepen the river for the passage of 1,000-foot freighters.
