Federal officials promote evidence-based grant funding

Federal education officials are promoting as a grant-funding model the Investing in Innovation program, in which the size of each grant is based on the strength of evidence that an approach will be successful. The strategy is aimed at funding the most proven programs while offering early seed funding to less-tested ideas. Officials say the strategy promotes collaboration between researchers and practitioners, and removes some of the politics from decisions about funding controversial programs.
