Report: Nearly half of U.S. energy M&A deals involved shale

Shale assets made up 46% of third-quarter merger-and-acquisition deals in the U.S. energy sector, according to a report from PricewaterhouseCoopers. "Shale-gas assets continue to attract vast interest from oil and gas companies with five of the top 10 largest deals in the third quarter involving shale plays," Steve Haffner, a partner with the firm's energy-consulting practice, said in a statement. Marcellus Shale activity continues to spread as companies boost holdings and new players emerge, he said.
