Report: Science education may help to revitalize Haiti

Boosting science education is key to helping Haiti recover from the devastating earthquake it suffered on Jan. 12, 2010, said Gary Machlis, author of the report "Science in Haiti." Machlis, along with University of Puerto Rico-Rio Piedras professor Jorge Colón and AAG's Jean McKendry, presented the report last week to the American Association for the Advancement of Science. Haiti needs well-trained high-school teachers and materials available in French and Creole, Machlis said.
