Unemployment remains high among individuals with disabilities

National unemployment rates for individuals with disabilities are higher now than they were at the end of the recent recession, recent data show. The Americans with Disabilities Act prohibits discriminatory hiring practices, but disability advocates say some employers still fear that workers with special needs will cost them more money, despite the low cost of many accommodations. Efforts to address the issue include legislation offering incentives for individuals with disabilities to start their own businesses.
