FDA proposes rule for animal-food safety

An FDA proposal under the Food Safety Modernization Act would improve animal-food safety by requiring the development and implementation of a formal plan to identify potential hazards and a plan for correcting problems in facilities that manufacture, process, pack or hold animal feed or pet food. The American Feed Industry Association has asked the FDA to extend the comment deadline to match the Nov. 26 deadline for preventive control rules.
