Mich. grocers' approach reflects wider trend, analyst says

Supermarkets in Michigan, such as Kroger Marketplace, Whole Foods Market, Busch's Fresh Food Market and Hiller's, are upgrading services and expanding nongrocery offerings to attract customers and remain competitive against large discount grocers and retailers, as well as drugstores. The movement reflects a national trend, grocery analyst Phil Lempert says. Companies are catering to consumer desire for a "one-shop-fits-all experience," Lempert said.
