Consumers can now use smartphones and tablets to do everything from choose a restaurant to order and pay for the meal and write a review afterward with the power to sway other prospective guests, writes long-time food critic Bryan Miller. While some restaurateurs worry that the increased ease of making new dining plans will translate to a rise in no-shows, others count on the increased accountability on sites such as OpenTable, which deactivates users who fail to show for four reservations in a year.
