Standardized tests pressure teachers to cheat

Between 1999 and the spring of 2002, 21 proven cases of teacher cheating on standardized tests occurred in New York state, primarily at elementary and middle schools, where performance is often judged through standardized tests. Brian Jacobs, co-author of a Harvard study of teacher cheating in Chicago, found high-stakes testing has caused cheating to increase by 30 to 50 percent.
