Health care providers lack smoking-cessation training

A survey found 87% to 93% of health care providers have had less than five hours of smoking-cessation training and less than 6% are aware of treatment guidelines for tobacco dependence. Only 16% of those who prescribe drugs knew which FDA-approved medications were over-the-counter and which required a prescription.
