Prevnar-13 stronger than older version of vaccine, data show

Results from four European trials suggest that Wyeth's Prevnar-13 can provide stronger protection against pneumococcal disease in young children compared with Prevnar, an older version of the vaccine. A Wyeth official said Prevnar-13 can work against 19A, a form of the bacterium Streptococcus pneumoniae that causes the most serious kind of pneumococcal disease and is resistant to antibiotics in some cases.
